Sk8 Disco

5 intermediate youth programmes joined forces last Friday night to organise an EPIC Sk8 Disco at Cowles Stadium. For many of the young people, it was their first time on 4 wheels. With the support of over 100 pairs of roller skates from Phat Sk8 and a DJ provided by Blue Light Canterbury, the venue was the perfect size and location for the groups. Amber Tucker, youth worker from Powerhouse Youth Ministries in Burwood said “it’s great to see so many young people from the east of Christchurch having so much fun, just on a set of wheels! The young people of 30 years ago aren’t that different to the young people of today after all!” Amber Henderon from Youth Alive Trust commented “the leaders of the different intermediate groups are top people – and bringing us all together showed the young people that there’s no competition between us, we all want what’s best for the young people”. The 5 intermediate groups involved in organising the event were; Rock Solid (Youth Alive Trust), City East (Gen Z), Activ8 (Parklands Baptist), Powerhouse (Burwood Christian Centre) & Xplode (Breezers Road Baptist). The event is now being planned again for 2014.
