Youth Alive Trust is offering a $4000 scholarship to up to two trainees who wish to join their team of youth workers and advance their study and qualifications, by doing a certificate in Youthwork with Praxis (http://www.praxis.org.nz).  The Trust runs an array of youth programmes in local schools and out of school, as well as Holiday Programmes, Camps, Library Support, Community Events and volunteer support and training.  The role includes probably two days per week of lectures and tuition, generally one day of personal study and two days of practical work.  You will join an existing team of youth workers who have a passion for young people, a love for God and a heart to serve!  You will also join a church family that has a big heart for supporting the local community and doing what it can to serve it.  The scholorship includes full payment of your tuition fees upon completion + support towards course travel costs and camps.  Please contact us for more information and/or an informal chat.  Contact James on 3885459 or email office@yat.org.nz

We have re-arranged the new Youth Alive Trust 21^st Celebration Weekend to the 18^th – 21^st November! (thanks to the earthquake).

We realise this date will not suit everyone, however we hope you’ll be able to make some part of the weekend to celebrate 21^st years of work in the New Brighton Community.  The weekend will look like:

Thursday 18^th Nov 10am – Presentation to the Community 10am @ Beach Campus.

Everyone welcome to hear about the work we’ve done in 2010.

Friday 19^th Nov 7pm – Sodium Live Band Night

For local teenagers, including local bands Restoration & The Middlemen (tbc)

Sat 20^th Nov  – Celebration Meal – by invitation only

Current and Ex Staff, Volunteers & Supporters, gathering for a meal, speeches and charity auction!

Sun 21^st Nov – Morning Celebration Service

Guest speaker – Ross Banbury, ex- Youth Alive Trust Team Leader & the 21^st Birthday Cake

Due to the stresses of the earthquake, we have POSTPONED ALL of this weekends 21^st Birthday Celebrations. We will re-organise and re-plan the whole weekend of events again in the future! We hope this takes the stress off attending and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

All youth programmes will also be cancelled until schools re-open & buildings checked – although we thank God that there is no sign of damage and no injuries from anyone in our network.

From Friday 27th August, Sodium will be starting at 7:00pm and finishing 9:30pm.  This is due to a large amount of teenagers getting to Sodium early and waiting on the streets, and also to allowing volunteers an earlier finish, after drop-offs, clean up and debrief!  Drop Offs will begin from 9:15pm.  We also confirm that you cannot leave Sodium and return into the building without paying another gold coin – due to incidents on the street during Sodium hours.

Grace Vineyard and Youth Alive Trust are partnering with Big Brother Big Sister to provide mentors for young people in Central New Brighton Primary School.  The presence of mentoring relationships such as these has been proven to be key in bringing hope to young lives, helping to keep them out of trouble and therefore giving them a future. With a committment of only 1 hour per week, in school time, maybe you can be the role model a local young person needs?  For more information or to express your interest in becoming a mentor, please visit www.bbbschch.co.nz or call the office on: 351 4109.

Due to Parent Requests, and a change of our staff, WAVE will now be starting and finishing earlier: 4:30pm – 6:00pm (unless stated – due to Outing).

Legend Leaders Dave & Cherie Crooks will be taking time-out from Wave for the rest of the year, as they prepare to give birth to their third baby in 3 years! (name suggestions in a hat!)  We wish them both all the best and thank them for their many hours of commitment.  Tom, James & Emily will be helping step into the gap, with new leaders Sophie & John, joining our existing team 🙂

Reminder that all our After-School Clubs Start in Week 2 of Every Term due to Leaders Meetings in Week 1 (Cheeky Little Monkeys, WAVE, Rock Solid).  However Sodium Youth Cafe will begin in week 1 (Friday 23rd July).
