Shot out to Briair!

Shout out to youth worker Briair who has been a long term attendee, volunteer and staff member at YAT, but is now going onto new adventures. Briair has been a part of the furniture at YAT for nearly 10 years, working with all age groups, and supporting so many young people through our clubs, programmes, events and mentoring. You’re a qualified youth worker now and we know you’ll be a blessing to many more young people wherever you go! You’ll always be a part of our whānau 🙂

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) has been recognised in Aotearoa since 1975. It’s an official week on our national calendar to honour, celebrate and promote te reo Māori. It’s also a great encouragement to us all to use more te reo Māori in our everyday lives, starting at home with our whānau! Why not try one or two new words of phrases at home this week?! Instagram Teen Accounts

📣NEW from Meta and Instagram!!!!!
The new Instagram Teen Account protections are designed to address parents’ biggest concerns, including who their teens are talking to online, the content they’re seeing and whether their time is being well spent. These protections are turned on automatically, and parents decide if teens under 16 can change any of these settings to be less strict:
✔Private accounts: With default private accounts, teens need to accept new followers and people who don’t follow them can’t see their content or interact with them. This applies to all teens under 16 (including those already on Instagram and those signing up) and teens under 18 when they sign up for the app.
✔Messaging restrictions: Teens will be placed in the strictest messaging settings, so they can only be messaged by people they follow or are already connected to.
✔Sensitive content restrictions: Teens will automatically be placed into the most restrictive setting of our sensitive content control, which limits the type of sensitive content (such as content that shows people fighting or promotes cosmetic procedures) teens see in places like Explore and Reels.
✔Limited interactions: Teens can only be tagged or mentioned by people they follow. We’ll also automatically turn on the most restrictive version of our anti-bullying feature, Hidden Words, so that offensive words and phrases will be filtered out of teens’ comments and DM requests.
✔Time limit reminders: Teens will get notifications telling them to leave the app after 60 minutes each day.
✔Sleep mode enabled: Sleep mode will be turned on between 10 PM and 7 AM, which will mute notifications overnight and send auto-replies to DMs.
“We plan to place teens into Teen Accounts within 60 days in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and in the European Union later this year. Teens around the world will start to get Teen Accounts in January.”

Parklands Christchurch United Softball Club, Have a go day – Eastern Canopy, 10am-11am, come along to try out softball and tee ball, all ages and abilities welcome!
New Brighton Cricket Club, junior come have a go! – Eastern Canopy, 3pm-5pm, all welcome, 5yrs-14yrs
South Brighton Tennis Club, Love Tennis open day – 10am-2pm at South Brighton Tennis Club, all equipment provided, prizes, giveaways, BBQ & more!

Rock Solid @ Kairos

6th September 2024

Loved our Community Project night with our Rock Solid club, serving Kairos Food Rescue with some food packaging, and learning about the amazing work they do rescuing food and serving some of our cities most vulnerable people. Just this year they have rescued and distributed 560,000kg of food, working with 59 groups to help distribute it. It’s with both sadness ☹and happiness😁that we say goodbye to Hannah, our Oscar Coordinator – who is now on maternity leave 🚼 Hannah has served young people at YAT for the past 4 years, and has brought kindness, gentleness, efficiency and a lot of fun to our programmes. You’ll be an amazing Mum and everyone can’t wait to meet baby👶But you’ve also planned it perfectly with Shelly, who has just returned from maternity leave to re-take the reigns as Oscar Coordinator! Welcome back Shelly!! Our Oscar Programme runs everyday and collects young people in School Years 4-9 from all local schools – spaces are available so check out our website for more info.
