Priority Bookings
Youth Alive Trust are only accepting bookings from previous families who have registered for our programmes up until 12noon Tuesday 12th March. This is to provide time for our regulars to make a booking, so they don’t miss out. After 12noon Tuesday, we will accept bookings from anyone else.
Oscar Subsidy
Check out if you’re eligible for government subsidies. If you have 3 or more children, you now need to be earning more than $2,697 per week to not be eligible for any support. If you have 2 children, you need to be earning more than $2,397 per week and if just 1 child, $2,98 per week (gross). This is a dramatic increase and many probably don’t realise they will qualify, if they just jump through a few bits of paperwork. The subsidy is only for those in work or study who need childcare. We need to sign your form, so this can be dropped off at reception anytime in office hours, and we can send the paperwork to WINZ for you. OR, once we’ve signed it, we can take a copy, in case WINZ loose it (which does happen) and you can take it all into WINZ yourself.
Your booking will sit in the ‘Pending’ category for a week, until we’ve seen the paperwork. If we’ve not seen the paperwork, there is a chance your booking will be cancelled unless you get in touch to explain circumstances: rego@yat.org.nz
A reminder that you and we often don’t find out about how much WINZ will contribute to your holiday programme fees until after the programme, so you are responsible for any shortfall to be paid as soon as possible.

Welcome to 2024
Our offices are closed this week, but some staff will be doing some admin to keep on top of holiday programmes which start next week. Spaces are still available in all our programmes so if you need child care, a break or some fun activities for the kids, check out the brochures on the hyperlinks below and make an online booking.

Summer Holiday Programmes are now LIVE!!
9 programmes, over 3 weeks for 3 age groups. We’ll be running a smaller programme on the 1 Week before Christmas (18th – 22nd Dec) and then the full normal programme on the final 2 full weeks of January (15th – 26th Jan). We’ve not finalised all the daily plans yet, but parents are starting to panic, so bookings can now be made via our normal database which we hope provides a bit of peace of mind – but don’t leave it too late !!

Transitioning School Years
There is some flexibility in the December and January programmes as school children move up a year. We ask that children choose one programme though, and do not jump between programmes according to activities, as this upsets culture and is unfair on other parents. We are encouraging those currently in School Year 6, to move up to the Piwakawaka from the December programme, as Pukeko is our busiest programme and there is normally space in the Piwakawaka. A large group of Year 6s will be moving to this programme together. We continue to provide programmes for young people up until the age of 14 only, which is normally in Year 9.

Breakaway Holiday Programmes Update:
Very Sadly, after 10 years of providing free activities for Intermediates and Teens in the school holidays, Oranga Tamariki has dropped its contract with Youth Alive Trust, and we no longer have the funding to run these programmes.
It is something we made a good case to OT for, and we were only needing around $18,000 per year, but they have dropped contracts with many providers nationwide. Thank you to all the parents who wrote emails of endorsement. We will continue to use these as we seek out new funding sources, and hope to be able to begin Breakaway programmes again. If you have a rich friend of family member who’s keen to fund them – get in touch!

Prices
The management of Youth Alive Trust have looked at the finances of holiday programmes over the past few years and it has been making a financial loss. We are often asked how we manage to fun such awesome activities for that price, and it’s because we only aim to break even. We have done our research and believe we have been one of the cheapest holiday programmes in the city, but with the increasing cost of activities, increasing cost of wages and not wanting to decrease the quality of the activities, we now need to increase our daily prices. We have also been stung by unpaid accounts amounted to thousands of dollars over a number of years, which is another reason we’re asking people to pay up front if they can. Our last price increase for an In Day was in January 2016, when they increased from $28 per day to $30 per day. In January 2017 the Outing Days increased to $35 per day to help cover the extra activity costs. Therefore from April 2022, these will be our new prices.

Breakaway activity costs are Free because of Oranga Tamariki financial support – apart from a $5 per day booking fee. Contact us if this is a concern and we’ll sort you out.

Our April Holiday Programme bookings are now LIVE!!! FOUR days of fun, games and friends from 19th – 22nd April. We also have two extra fun days planned for children who have teacher only days in the lead-up to Easter on 13th & 14th April. Due to new Oscar Covid rules, we have to work in smaller groups of just 20 children, so have split our programmes into 4 groups of 20. This is a smaller number than we normally cater for, but we’re limited by operating in separate spaces and staff. Click on the hyperlinks below to view the brochures:
13th – 14th April: Teacher Only Days. Archery, Aerojump, Mini Golf, VR Experience.
19th – 22nd April: Years 1-2. Imagination Station, 10 Pin Bowling, Tennis, Disco
19th – 22nd April: Years 3-4. Flips & Tumbles, Big Park Tour, Tennis, Games
19th – 22nd April: Years 5-6. Cinema, Flips & Tumbles, Ice Cream Challenge, Tennis
19th – 22nd April: Years 7-9. Gondola, Battle of the sexes, Flips & Tumbles, Sports
Note: There is no Breakaway Programme in April, but there will be in Week 2 of July. Clubs restart in Week 1 of Term 2.
New Prices
The management of Youth Alive Trust have looked at the finances of holiday programmes over the past few years and it has been making a financial loss. We are often asked how we manage to fun such awesome activities for that price, and it’s because we only aim to break even. We have done our research and believe we have been one of the cheapest holiday programmes in the city, but with the increasing cost of activities, increasing cost of wages and not wanting to decrease the quality of the activities, we now need to increase our daily prices. We have also been stung by unpaid accounts amounted to thousands of dollars over a number of years, which is another reason we’re asking people to pay up front if they can. Our last price increase for an In Day was in January 2016, when they increased from $28 per day to $30 per day. In January 2017 the Outing Days increased to $35 per day to help cover the extra activity costs. Therefore from April 2022, these will be our new prices.
In Days: $35
Outing Days: $40
In Days + extension: $47
Out Days + extension: $52
Normal days are 8:30 – 3:30pm
Extension Days are 8:30am – 6:00pm
Oscar Subsidy
We do however encourage people to see if they would be eligible for the Work and Income Oscar Subsidy. Many don’t realise that they can get government support for holiday programme and after school care, if they just jump through a few bits of paperwork. If you have 3 or more children, you need to be earning more than $1,800 per week to not be eligible for support. If you have 2 children, you need to be earning more than $1,600 per week and if just 1 child, $1,400 per week (gross). CLICK HERE for the full list of rates. Reminder that YAT runs Primary holiday programmes only in Week 1 of the holidays in April, July and October, plus other programmes pre-Christmas and the last two weeks in January. Here are this years dates:

Our Summer Holiday Programmes bookings are now LIVE. We are giving priority to people on our database to get in first, before making any public and social media posts. We are splitting the December programmes into 2 different age groups for both weeks; Yrs 1-4 & 5-8, then Yrs 1-3 & 4-6. This is because we also have Intermediates Breakaway running from 20 – 22 December. All programmes will be running different programmes, and have different coordinators and leaders. Activities include: Pedal Mania and Swimming/Mini Golf.
Activities include: Orana Park, Launch Pad and African Drumming.
We also have some sweet programmes planned for the final two weeks of January, for all three age groups. Activities such as Blokarting, Gymnastics, Launchpad Trampoline Park, Mini Golf, a Christchurch Park Tour and lots and lots of games!! In the anticipation that we will be back at Level two shortly, our Holiday Programmes bookings are now LIVE for 4 – 8 October (week 1 of the school holidays)! We are giving priority to people on our database to get in first, before making any public and social media posts. We are continuing with the three different age groups after positive feedback. All programmes will be running different programmes, and have different coordinators and leaders. Reminder that this is YAT’s Lockdown Level Guide. If we are in Level 3 or 4 during the holiday period, everyone will receive a reimbursement, as we are legally not allowed to operate. Also there is NO BREAKAWAY programmes in the October holidays for Intermediates or Teenagers. The next set of Breakaway programmes will be pre-Christmas holidays.

Our Summer Holiday Programmes are now taking bookings!!!! For the first time, we are running Holiday Programmes before Christmas, because of the gap between when schools finish and the Christmas Break. We will then be running for the two final weeks of January.

Change of Policy: In order to be fair to those who need childcare for the whole week, we won’t be confirming any single day bookings until Friday 4th December. This is in response to some people just booking the special outing days, and others missing out on the full week of childcare they need, and only able to attend on ‘in’ days. We value the relationships and trust we’re able to build over the week, and place priority on leader/young people connections. Please contact us if you have exceptional circumstances.

Our September/October Holiday Programmes are now taking bookings!!!! We are again running 2 x 5 day programmes from 28th Sept – 2nd October (Week 1) for Juniors and Seniors.
In Level 2 we will have a maximum of 38 children in each programme, plus their 8 leaders. If we move into Level 3 or 4, we won’t be running a programme, and any money paid will be reimbursed.
